Air Source Heat Pumps for
Homes & Businesses

Efficient, low-carbon heating designed for modern buildings. Reduce
your heating costs and environmental impact with renewable
 technology.

What Is an Air Source Heat Pump?

An air source heat pump (ASHP) extracts heat from the outside air—even when temperatures are as low as -15°C—and uses it to heat your home and hot water. Think of it as a refrigerator working in reverse.

The system uses electricity to power the heat transfer process, but for every unit of electricity used, it typically produces 3-4 units of heat energy. This makes heat pumps significantly more efficient than traditional heating systems.

Heat pumps work best when paired with well-insulated properties and low-temperature heating systems like underfloor heating or appropriately sized radiators.

How It Works
1
Heat Absorption

The outdoor unit absorbs heat energy from the ambient air

2
Compression

A compressor increases the temperature of the absorbed heat

3
Heat Transfer

Heat is transferred to your heating and hot water system

4
Distribution

Warm water circulates through radiators or underfloor heating

Who Are Heat Pumps Best Suited For?

Heat pumps work best in certain property types and configurations. Our
assessment will determine if your property is suitable.

Well-Insulated Properties

Properties with good insulation levels benefit most from heat pump installations. A home energy assessment can determine suitability.

New Builds & Retrofits

Ideal for new constructions designed with efficiency in mind, and suitable for many retrofit projects with appropriate preparation.

Low-Temperature Heating Systems

Works best with underfloor heating or larger radiators that operate efficiently at lower water temperatures.

Common Questions About Heat Pumps

Do air source heat pumps work in cold weather?
Yes, modern air source heat pumps are designed to work efficiently in temperatures as low as -15°C to -25°C. While efficiency does decrease slightly in very cold weather, today’s systems maintain reliable heating output throughout UK winters.
Installation typically takes 2-3 days for most properties. The outdoor unit requires a suitable location with adequate airflow, and internal work involves connecting to your heating system. We minimise disruption and leave your property clean and tidy.
Most properties can accommodate a heat pump, but suitability depends on factors like insulation levels, available outdoor space, and your current heating distribution system. Our free assessment will determine if a heat pump is right for your property.
Heat pumps require minimal maintenance compared to boilers. An annual service check is recommended to ensure optimal performance, and you should keep the outdoor unit clear of debris. There’s no annual safety certificate required like with gas boilers.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) currently offers grants of up to £7,500 towards heat pump installations for eligible properties in England and Wales. We can advise on available funding options during your assessment.
